Amar Mashru

Amar MashruAmar Mashru

Amar Mashru is an instructor for the Ashford club. Influenced by Martial Arts movies as a child, he started training in Martial Arts from the early age of 9 studying different styles, including Karate and Muai Thai, before beginning Tae Kwon Do at the age of 12 under Master F Plunkett (6th Dan). Over the years, Amar has studied various other forms of Martial Arts to help develop and enhance his skills and techniques in his preferred art, Tae Kwon Do.

Despite a six year break from martial arts to concentrate on his education and career, his commitment and dedication to Tae Kwon Do remained and he returned to training in 2006 and achieved his 1st Dan Black Belt in 2008. Amar now enjoys dedicating his time to passing on his extensive knowledge to other students, developing their sparring techniques and pattern performance, as well as continuing his own personal development in the art and his passion, sparring.

Over the years, Amar has achieved an impressive collection of over 40 medals and trophies in both Patterns and Sparring, many of which have been placed at national level, which is why you will often find him either competing himself at higher levels or coaching and mentoring others from the side lines!

Neil Emerton

Neil Emerton started training in Tae Kwon Do under the instruction of Mr Honey (4th Dan) and additional instruction from Mr Mashru (1st Dan). Although he had no previous training in martial arts before starting Tae Kwon do, he had extensive knowledge in self defence techniques and applications, acquired through his military service, which certainly explains his love for one step sparing!

Neil started training in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 33 after a friend suggested he come along to one of the beginners white belt classes, and he has never looked back since! 1st Dan Black Belt was achieved in 2009 and he qualified as an instructor in the same year, which just proves that you don’t need to be young to start training. Having started Tae Kwon Do at a late stage, his dedication and self training away from the club definitely puts him on a level playing field with the younger students.

Neil Continues to research new ideas and training methods to apply to his lessons and also trains on a regular basis to continually develop his own skills and personal fitness, which is why other students look to him frequently for advice on both physical and technical applications of self defence and his traditional pattern performance.
